Population dynamics of grey wolves and Eurasian lynx in Latvia and the identification of conflict risks in the livestock sector

The novelty of this research proposal lies in the unique situation of Latvia (and the entire Baltic region) compared to other EU countries, where economic development has already reached a high level and large carnivore populations are gradually recovering after having been almost entirely eradicated. In the Baltic region, wolves and lynx have always been present, forming a unified Baltic population, whereas the national economy has developed particularly rapidly in recent years. The scientific problem addressed by this research proposal is linked to the lack of knowledge regarding the expected impact of management measures on the population dynamics of Latvian wolves and lynx, as well as on conflict situations within the livestock sector.
