However, if 133 scientists have signed an open letter, the reasoning behind the answer is much more nuanced than we might imagine.

One of the authors of the letter, Dr. Amy Dickman, explains that she is certainly not a supporter of hunting, but both she and her colleagues are concerned that if hunting were to be banned, large areas of land previously used for hunting might be repurposed for other uses and would no longer be suitable for the species that were once hunted there.
