Within the next year, the Finnish company Kääpä Biotech, in collaboration with the Natural Resources Institute Finland, will present something new to the industry: spruce seedlings with mycelium introduced ("inoculated") into their roots, which stimulates the growth of the seedlings. The "assistance" provided by the mycelium to the seedlings is quite extensive, including the creation of a new, stable carbon store in the soil over the first five years.

"This is the first mycorrhizal product created in a nursery. It will be important and significant for both forest owners and Finland's climate policy," says Eric Puro, CEO of Kääpä Biotech.
