The conservation of biodiversity should not be linked solely to strict protection measures. Natural values in Finland are protected by "removing" valuable forest stands from commercial use. In this respect, Finland is far ahead of other European countries.
Starting from the 90s, when nature conservation measures began in commercial forests, the philosophy of protection has developed step by step: the "gentler" the protection measures in commercial forests, the more the need to include them in strictly protected areas will decrease.
