Despite their somewhat misleading name, the tiny elephant shrews, which have been considered extinct for about 50 years, have been seen again in Africa. The last scientifically documented sighting of the elephant shrew was in 1968, and subsequent studies in the 1970s, along with attempts to locate the small animal, were unsuccessful.
Recently, during a scientific research project, the animals were spotted in Djibouti, a small East African nation.
