Why might civilisation be older than previously thought?

In 1995, ancient ruins were discovered in south-eastern Turkey. Upon examining a vast plain and the hills situated on its edge, it was concluded that the region is quite dry and barren, though it could not exactly be described as desert-like or a desert. The sunny weather is interrupted from time to time by strong winds, while the heat during the day and cold at night are tempered by the distant Mediterranean Sea. Kurdish shepherds had long searched for land suitable for their flocks. When the aforementioned ancient ruins were discovered, information emerged in some news headlines that Kurdish shepherds had mentioned in conversation: the ruins had long been considered a potentially sacred or, conversely, a cursed place. Of course, it must be taken into account that such stories often tend to emerge after the discovery of ancient sites.

The drawings and engravings found in the ruins act as a guide to the culture of the people who built the now-ruined structures ~11,500 years ago.
