One reason why the wider public knows relatively little about the forestry sector is that it is self-sufficient. It is independent, capable of operating without external subsidies and continuing to contribute to the national budget as well. This means that for the forestry sector, selling itself to the public as the 'one and only' and reacting to aggressive smear campaigns has not been a priority. But now, jumping on that bandwagon is not easy. Similar challenges exist across the entire region, although it must be said that, when evaluating the Baltic states, the forest sector in Latvia is stronger and more focused on the development of purposeful management.
