Work on drafting the National Development Plan began back in the spring of 2019. More than half a year has now passed and, unfortunately, it is to some extent no longer current – since then, new challenges have emerged, including in agriculture. For example, in EU climate and EU Green Deal policy, as well as bioeconomy development, which will significantly change the processes for the use and management of Latvia's natural resources in order to meet the requirements for the most sustainable management possible. We must implement these strategies very soon, so it is completely unacceptable that adequate funding for the performance of such tasks, which are important to farmers and society, has not been provided. This is not just a whim of the Ministry of Agriculture – these are shared EU Common Agricultural Policy goals, and therefore I cannot support the document in its current version; the plan needs to be supplemented and clarified regarding agricultural issues so that they bring benefits to all of Latvian society and do not impose an unbearable burden on local farmers.
The National Development Plan needs to be clarified and supplemented with the Ministry of Agriculture's proposals
