"Silava" begins research on greenhouse gas emissions from tree trunk surfaces in deciduous forests

Work has commenced at the Latvian State Forest Research Institute "Silava" on the project "Evaluation of factors affecting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from surface of tree stems in deciduous forests with drained and wet soils" (Evaluation of factors affecting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from surface of tree stems in deciduous forests with drained and wet soils) (application number LZP-2021/1-0137).

The aim of the research is to evaluate GHG emissions from tree trunk surfaces in deciduous forest stands and to quantify the impact of moisture regime changes and other factors on these emissions, in order to provide decision-support tools for climate change mitigation when managing forest stands with drained and waterlogged soils.
