... We have currently launched a pilot project in one forest district to see how this might work. This means that in a specific territory, there are several foresters among whom work is distributed regardless of which inspection area they were previously assigned to. Up until now, foresters have often headed to the forest without much need. To issue a felling licence, it is enough to simply look into our information system and select the necessary data.

We are also considering the possibility of shifting responsibility for forestry activities on their land to the owners. A forest owner who has applied for felling is themselves responsible for what is done there. Once the activity is complete and we have been notified, colleagues go out and check whether everything is correct.

A felling licence is required so that the origin of the timber can be verified and the supply chain tracked. In all other respects, this is not a permit, it is a declaration of activity, unless we determine that the felling age has not yet been reached or there are other circumstances that prevent this activity.
