Since the time of “Saskaņa” rule in the Riga City Council, some deputies of the new convocation have adopted a trait that they promised to eradicate before the election – namely, to assume that any objection or discussion is not a reasonable objection or discussion, but a denial and an absolute “Against!”. If you do not say: “You are absolutely right” or “I agree, I agree, gentlemen of Riga”, you will not only be ignored, but labelled a “lobbyist”, shouted at about greenery, and most likely have European documents and CO2 cited at you. LETA has aptly highlighted the fact – Riga – the capital of Latvia, whose still relatively new council has not yet dealt with the legacy (including financial) left by previous councils, and while acting farsightedly in the opinion of the deputies, wishes to part with a valuable company. Speaking frivolously – from this moment on, any talk that the council lacks funds should be dismissed with the words of a classic: “There is more money than ever before!”
The municipal SIA “Rīgas meži” will most likely sell its “Norupe” sawmill, the company's council chairman Toms Auškāps informed at a press conference today.
He explained that there are three possible ways for “Rīgas meži” to exit the timber processing business. One is to sell the business, the second is to lease it, and the third is to sell the assets. T. Auškāps emphasised that the company's goal is to divest from the sawmill as profitably as possible, therefore, it will most likely be a sale of the company. (...)
