Americans would think we are millionaires with our land

...the absurdity of the infighting is vividly illustrated by an episode experienced last year. In the summer, I visited the conventional farm "Vilciņi-1", owned by Maira Dzelzkalēja-Burmistre, the deputy head of Zemnieku Saeima, in Zaļenieki parish. For a couple of years, I had also wanted to visit the organic farm "Salenieki", run by Gustavs Norkārklis, head of the Latvian Organic Agriculture Association, because he does excellent work. Filming had been planned for two years. But the moment the association head heard that I had previously filmed at "Vilciņi", he put on the brakes. And the argument was that we were glorifying grain growers. That is blatant mockery, not of my professional work, but yet another vivid testament – there is them (the conventional ones), and there is us (the organic ones).

At that moment, I felt this ignorance strongly, that people have become so confused in their imagined fight with an opponent that they are unable to highlight themselves and their own positive story. Interestingly, last season we had already filmed two members of the Latvian Organic Agriculture Association – we visited both the organic meat producers, the Vīgants brothers near Ērgļi, and the organic farmer Jānis Vaivars, who grows herbal teas near Ķegums. How can it be that you are not moving in the same direction? The answer – these men are doers, not policy pushers.
