Significant step taken to strengthen energy independence and achieve the goals of the NECP 2030

At its meeting on 22 February this year, the Cabinet of Ministers conceptually supported a proposal from the Ministry of Economics that urgently addresses the achievement of the goals of the National Energy and Climate Plan 2030 (hereinafter – NECP) and the strengthening of the country's energy independence. The state intends to develop new strategically important wind energy parks on state-owned land, entrusting the implementation of this project to a joint venture established by AS Latvenergo and AS Latvijas valsts meži.

“To strengthen Latvia's energy independence, achieve the goals of the National Energy and Climate Plan and move Latvia towards climate-neutral energy, it is essential for us to implement large-scale strategic wind parks. One of the central pillars in achieving climate neutrality is the wider use of renewable energy resources. Energy from renewable sources is at the heart of the European Energy Union's priorities and is a central element of European policy and an important driving force for providing clean energy to all European citizens,” emphasises Minister for Economics Jānis Vitenbergs.
