New habitat for eastern pasqueflower

With a view to the long-term restoration of habitats required by the eastern pasqueflower, JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” will, by the end of 2023, be implementing a project funded by the European Union Cohesion Fund entitled “Implementation of management measures in specially protected nature territories and micro-reserves to improve the conservation status of habitats and species”, in cooperation with the Nature Conservation Agency and project partners.

“When assessing the requirements of pasqueflowers, botanists classify them as a group of light-demanding, disturbance-dependent plants – this means they like sun-drenched, dry and sparse pine forests. Over time, through natural development, such forests become enriched with nutrients and become overgrown, which is why the habitat must be constantly 'disturbed' in order to maintain the conditions necessary for the species,” explains LVM Environmental Project Manager Ieva Rove.
