In Latvia, river restoration work of this type is not common practice, which is why an expert from Klaipėda University, Nerijus Nika, was involved in the project. In the expert's view, there were three locations in the section of the Mergupe where the clean-up took place where wooden structures could be built and installed to improve the river's flow and hydromorphological condition. Each of the constructed wooden structures will influence the river's flow in a different way.
