We are noticing the presence of bears more and more often – footprints on the beach, videos of bears near Riga. Hunters also encounter bears relatively frequently, simply because they are in the forest more often than other residents of Latvia.
We asked Jānis Ročāns, an engineer for hunting matters at the State Forest Service's North Vidzeme Forestry, about how significant the bear problem is in Latvia, as well as what to do if you meet a bear in the forest!
