Why is lynx monitoring necessary?

It is well known that, like wolves, lynx are included in the lists of specially protected species in several European and global countries. The protection of these species is stipulated by international conventions and the legislation of European Union countries; however, these documents allow for exceptions if the need to hunt these protected species is sufficiently justified by scientific research and data. The aim of this monitoring is to obtain data on the population and its ability to regenerate following a specific hunting load. Consequently, the implementation of this monitoring is the only way we can maintain lynx hunting in Latvia.
