The recently published 3rd IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report assesses opportunities to reduce global warming. Although the report's focus is clearly slanted towards new technologies, many continue to look to natural opportunities and solutions for climate issues. It should be noted that international awareness of the biodiversity crisis has continued to grow since the 1970s.
As a result of this awareness, forest restoration is important to many people, who consider it the best way to absorb carbon emissions. Another plan (idea, concept...) on the political agenda is nature restoration, by allowing it to 'recover' by ceasing any human intervention in specific areas and encouraging the flourishing of biodiversity there.
What are the differences between forest restoration and nature restoration? Will planting trees be enough to slow the rate of climate change?
