In other words, we have talked the pandemic to death, but it seems we are still unable to accept the idea that humans are not omniscient when it comes to the patterns of nature. And that, therefore, there is no need to impose our logic, based on imperfect knowledge, upon other living creatures. To be more precise, scientific expertise and advice are not sought when formulating this logic.

Let me provide an example. I assume most of us agree that plastic pollution in seas and oceans is not a good thing – it harms the creatures living in that environment, for whom we feel a sentimental pity, and, after all, pollution simply looks unsightly. Yet, at the same time, I also assume that for many, this pollution problem does not seem very urgent. The reasons can be various – ranging from 'I don't eat fish anyway' to the thesis that an aesthetically unpleasant landscape is an acceptable price to pay for so-called progress.
