We all want to live "green". But...

The greatest doubts regarding "green" activists arise from the fact that they direct their criticism, or even hatred, towards producers, especially those growing grain and rapeseed. On the internet, one can read categorical calls to squeeze the "greedy barons" who pollute the world with their tractors, spraying and poisoning everything everywhere. In my view, there is nothing more erroneous than such assertions. Those who express them do not understand the times we live in, what is happening in global food production, or what causes the main threats to ecology and all living creatures.

While disparaging current agriculture, the "greens" praise the times when no chemicals were used in the countryside and the land was worked with horses and simple ploughs. Yes, those times existed; people truly ate natural food, did not pollute waters, and did not threaten bees and other living creatures. But what was the price of bread then? Hard labour from sunrise to sunset, extremely low yields, and poverty. The majority of the population—up to 90 per cent—lived in the countryside and tilled the land, yet they were unable to produce enough food to ensure everyone was well-fed. Only the privileged classes ate as much as they wanted. The majority of people, including the bread growers themselves, lived in semi-starvation, despite their arduous efforts. In years of poor harvests, famine was a frequent guest in many countries, villages, and towns.
