Visually unkempt, but safe

Although a grey sign stating "Walking on the tracks is strictly prohibited" remains permanently on the warehouse wall at the end of Sliežu iela, this has not significantly affected the flow of pedestrians across the railway bridge over the Lielupe river.
The fenced pedestrian path on the railway bridge is slightly over a metre wide, and two people walking towards each other can barely pass. Mostly, the bridge is used by residents of the depot district. However, "Ziņas" has observed both bicycle couriers – delivering pizzas – and leisurely walkers on this pedestrian crossing. Towards the end of 2021, those already crossing the bridge could be joined by people heading from Pārlielupe to the city's new market, which is being built at Sporta iela 2B and Zemgales prospekts 19A.
In Jelgava, the Lielupe is crossed by two adjacent bridges. The one with only a single track, where trains travel rarely, is partially allocated for pedestrian traffic. The bridge has also not been painted for a long time. There is quite intense train traffic on the second railway bridge, which has two tracks and is located 25 metres downstream from the first. It is illuminated in the evenings, and there is no fenced pavement for pedestrians on it.
