The five-year agreement will deepen bilateral cooperation, supporting reforms in Ukrainian forestry that are adapted to climate change and aligned with European Union requirements.

Ukrainian and German officials formally signed the joint commitment during the Green Week trade fair in Berlin.

Ukraine and Germany have strengthened their long-standing partnership in sustainable forestry by signing a joint memorandum of intent on cooperation. The agreement was concluded during the international trade fair "Green Week" (Grüne Woche) in Berlin. It was signed by representatives of Ukraine's Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture and Germany's Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Regional Identity.

The agreement builds on decades of bilateral cooperation and aims to support the development in Ukraine of a modern, ecologically balanced and economically viable forestry sector that meets European standards and protects natural resources.

"Cooperation with Germany gives us access to advanced European expertise, innovative technologies and modern approaches to forest management," says Ukraine's Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Oleksii Sobolev, who regards the agreement as a significant step in strengthening the country's resilience. "The agreement opens up new opportunities for carrying out a national forest inventory, improving the climate resilience of the forestry sector and aligning Ukrainian legislation with EU standards."

According to the joint statement, the two countries will work together to develop forestry policy that complies with European norms, to support the implementation and use of Ukraine's national forest inventory, and to promote measures that help the forestry sector adapt to climate change. The cooperation also covers the introduction of environmentally safe technologies for the use of forest resources and initiatives to improve the economic efficiency of forest management.

Both sides have undertaken to exchange scientific and technical information, to conduct joint training, to share experience and to carry out cooperation projects. A Coordination Council will be established to oversee the partnership, set priorities, approve annual work plans and ensure the practical implementation of joint initiatives.

Germany will provide expert and technical assistance, including by engaging international specialists and offering financial support for joint projects, while Ukraine will coordinate operational processes and ensure the participation of the relevant national experts.

The agreement will initially be in force for five years, with the option of extension. It is expected to play a key role in modernising Ukraine's forestry sector, deepening its integration into the European policy sphere and strengthening the country's wider environmental resilience.
