...tree plantings restored along a state road

On 6 May, the team from VSIA "Latvijas Valsts ceļi" (LVC) held a volunteering event in Taurene, near the regional road Cēsis–Vecpiebalga–Madona (P30). In cooperation with specialists from a/s "Latvijas valsts meži" (LVM) and colleagues from VAS "Latvijas autoceļu uzturētājs", a tree avenue was planted there. This is the first time since the 1960s and 70s that tree plantings have been established along a state road.

In total, 55 common oaks (the cultivar Fastigiata) were planted, along with several rowan trees. All seedlings were sourced from the LVM nursery. The oaks were planted on state-owned land, in the road reserve beyond the ditch, meaning they will not pose a threat to traffic safety, but will eventually form a beautiful avenue. The chosen oak variety has a compact, oval canopy, which means their branches will not extend over the road or cause visibility issues. The road section along which the avenue has been restored is located within a built-up area and has good visibility.

In 2016, reconstruction work was completed on the regional road Cēsis–Vecpiebalga–Madona (P30) in the section from the overpass over the former railway line to Brežģa kalns past Taurene (km 24.6–38.0). To carry out the road reconstruction, the existing lime tree avenue on the roadside had to be felled. Now, the avenue has been restored. (...)
