Thanks to the prompt actions of local residents and emergency services, as well as information shared by hunters, it was possible to capture the injured lynx that had wandered into Jaunjelgava quickly and humanely last week. The predator was taken to the "Mežavairogi" shelter, where it received urgent veterinary assistance.

As wildlife behaviour experts point out, lynxes very rarely approach human settlements, and this only happens in two cases: if the animal has been tamed or if it is emaciated for some reason and is looking for easily accessible food. In Jaunjelgava, the lynx attempted to maul a domestic dog, but people managed to fend off the attack. The predator was filmed during its second attempt. The video gained widespread attention on social media and helped spread information about this unique incident.

Jaunjelgava residents promptly contacted the relevant authorities, and the lynx rescue operation began.
