Following inspections of more than 200 osprey nest sites across Latvia by environmental experts from A/s “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM), the 15th season of osprey monitoring has concluded. The data obtained show that the breeding success of the Latvian osprey population has been good this year.

This year, a record number of osprey-occupied nests was identified – 161, which is the highest in the history of the monitoring programme. Previously, the highest number of occupied nests was recorded in 2019, when the count reached 158.

In 2021, the number of successful nests was also high at 94, while a total of 220 osprey chicks fledged, which is similar to last year, when 221 chicks fledged. Most commonly, there were three chicks per nest.
