Timber industry future forum “From the forest to the world market: how can we give Latvia's economic engine extra power?”

On 12 February, the second timber industry future forum “From the forest to the world market: how can we give Latvia's economic engine extra power?” will take place. The event will bring together experts from wood processing and related industries to discuss how to overcome the current challenges – sluggish development of high added value, the complexity of attracting investment, and fostering dialogue with state institutions.

The timber industry future forum is organised by one of Latvia's leading wood industry companies, “Stiga RM”, in cooperation with the Employers' Confederation of Latvia (LDDK). Taking part in the event and sharing their views will be Minister for Economics Viktors Valainis, LIAA Director Ieva Jāgere, Luminor economist Pēteris Strautiņš, as well as the chairs of Cēsis and Ogre municipal councils and representatives of banks and timber industry companies. Those interested can follow the forum live on the LETA and Delfi portals, as well as on the “Stiga RM” Facebook account. It starts at 10.00.

During the event, experts will discuss:

●       the development of high added value business in Latvia;

●       local investors as an asset for the development of Latvia's economy;

●       the role of large companies in regional development;

●       a company's financial health and its role in attracting investment.

“A year ago, opening the first timber industry forum event, I shared my vision of the industry's future – here in Latvia we need to focus on manufacturing high added value products that have strong export potential and are in demand worldwide. Over the year, watching the situation in the industry, my conviction has only grown stronger. The only path to successful development is investment in high added value manufacturing. I am glad that what I said has reached many receptive ears, and this year we have the opportunity to gather a wider circle of experts and continue the discussion on how to overcome the current challenges more successfully and move towards the industry's further development,” emphasises Andris Ramoliņš, owner and chairman of the board of “Stiga RM”.
