Volume of car tyres dumped in forests has increased

The approach of winter means car owners have to worry about changing their vehicle's tyres. Each year during this period, there is a significant increase in the amount of hazardous waste – car tyres – dumped in forests. In the first few days of November, more than one hundred irresponsibly discarded car tyres have already been discovered in the forests of the Vidzeme region managed by A/s “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM).

“The issue of disposing of end-of-life car tyres becomes more acute every year during the tyre-changing season, particularly before the switch to winter tyres in autumn. In the first week of November, two instances of large-scale tyre dumping were recorded in the forests of the Vidzeme region – on 2 November in the Ropaži district we found 54 discarded tyres, and on 4 November in the Vēri district, more than 80 car tyres,” says Guntars Kampernovs, LVM’s forestry manager for the West Vidzeme region.
