State plans to subsidise the purchase of "green" energy production equipment for residents

A support programme is currently being developed under which the state plans to subsidise the purchase of renewable energy production equipment for residents, such as solar panels or small-scale wind turbines, Minister for Environmental Protection and Regional Development Artūrs Toms Plešs (AP) announced on Monday, 24 January, following a coalition party cooperation meeting.

After the meeting, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV) informed that a support package to mitigate the energy resource price crisis, which the coalition agreed upon last week, would be forwarded to Tuesday's cabinet meeting. At the same time, coalition partners discussed medium and long-term solutions to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

A. T. Plešs stated that in addition to short-term solutions for the energy price crisis, medium and long-term solutions are being sought on how the state can provide support and encourage wider changes in the types of energy resources we consume. Although the detailed support proposal is still being drafted, the minister noted that the incentive support measures must be available immediately after the end of the heating season so that residents can invest funds in new equipment, thus preparing for the next heating season.

The minister explained that the state plans to develop a support programme for residents to purchase renewable energy production equipment, such as solar panels, heat pumps, and small-scale wind turbines. A. T. Plešs acknowledged that the intensity of the support would likely be at a level of 50%, depending on the equipment. Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Economics Ilze Indriksone (NA) added that the amount of support could be 5,000 euros, without specifying details.
