This year marks 50 years since the production of birch plywood rocking horses began in Latvia. Almost all of us have childhood memories associated with this durable toy, which many received as a hand-me-down from brothers, sisters, or even the previous generation. Scratched or not, the rocking horse is dear to everyone, which is why we invite you all to the Friends Room of the National Library of Latvia (LNB), where the children’s drawing exhibition “Stories, Drawings, Fairy Tales”, dedicated to the rocking horse, will be on display until 31 January.
Currently, rocking horses are made at the company “Troja” from plywood produced at “Latvijas Finieris”, later entering countless families in Latvia and beyond, creating new, warm memories.
The rocking horse manufactured by SIA “Troja” has rocked several generations of Latvians, travelled across the world, and remains relevant for children today. Over 50 years, SIA “Troja” has produced more than a million of these toys, and over time, new designs have been added to the classic rocking horse – Ojārs, Zadigs, Ludvigs, Ponijs, and Riksis. To make the rocking horse more easily accessible to every new parent and grandparent who also associates the toy with their own childhood memories, an online shop has been created: www.supulzirdzins.lv.
