Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš has this week instructed the Cross-Sectoral Coordination Centre to conduct an independent assessment regarding the compliance of the nomination process for board and council members of certain state-owned enterprises with the principles of good corporate governance.
“Recent public information regarding the progress and results of competitions for management positions in certain state-owned enterprises has raised reasonable questions in society about adherence to good governance principles; therefore, I have instructed the Cross-Sectoral Coordination Centre to carry out an independent assessment,” emphasises K. Kariņš, citing the competition results for board member positions at VAS “Latvijas valsts meži” as an example.
Following receipt of the independent assessment, the Cross-Sectoral Coordination Centre has been tasked with preparing conclusions and proposals for necessary amendments to regulatory acts in order to improve the recruitment process for board and council member positions in state-owned enterprises.
