On Friday, 10 December, at 10.00, the renewed building of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) Faculty of Forest Sciences will be unveiled at 11 Akadēmijas Street, Jelgava. The event will be attended by Minister for Agriculture Kaspars Gerhards, Chairman of the Jelgava City Council Andris Rāviņš, LLU Rector and Academician Irina Pilvere, Chairman of the Council of AS “Latvijas valsts meži” Edmunds Beļskis, and student representatives, according to Dean of the LLU Faculty of Forest Sciences Linards Sisenis.

In November 2021, significant energy efficiency improvement works were completed at the LLU Faculty of Forest Sciences in Jelgava, and its building on Akadēmijas Street has acquired a new exterior. Furthermore, major modernisation of the study environment was implemented in 2020, meaning that future forestry sector specialists now have access to comfortable, modern and well-organised study spaces.

According to L. Sisenis, the building renovation works currently implemented are the most extensive it has undergone since its construction. The renovation works were carried out by combining various funding sources, and a total of approximately 1.2 million euros has been invested in the faculty since 2018.

“Like the forest itself, the industry is changing, so education and its content must also change so that young professionals can be competitive. We are already working at the Ministry to introduce various digital solutions in the sector that improve safety, reduce the bureaucratic burden and facilitate communication between the state and entrepreneurs. In the future, there will only be more such initiatives. The forest sector has been a pillar of the Latvian economy; it is important to maintain this in the future, which we can do with strong experts. Therefore, I am pleased that the Ministry of Agriculture has also made its contribution – 174 thousand euros – to the renovation and modernisation of the Faculty of Forest Sciences,” said Minister for Agriculture Kaspars Gerhards.
