The benefits and contribution of the Swedish forest industry to the climate sector have increased by 46% over the last 30 years. This has made a significant contribution to reducing Sweden's total carbon emissions, while also benefiting other European countries, which consume approximately 65% of all Swedish forest products. The Swedish forest industry's new report, "The climate impact of the Swedish forest industry 1990-2020", shows that the industry creates twice as much climate benefit annually as the entire country's carbon emissions.
"These are impressive figures. Over the last 30 years, the climate benefit of the forest industry has been significant, while biodiversity conditions in Swedish forests have steadily improved. Our industry is at the heart of the green transition, and I hope this will also be taken into account in the legislative work taking place in Brussels," says Viveka Beckeman (Viveka Beckeman), Director General of the Swedish Forest Industries Federation (SFIF).
