On 5 April, the seedling sorting and processing complex at the Mežvidi nursery of a/s “Latvijas valsts meži” was ceremonially opened in Jaunkalsnava parish.

The nursery's seedling sorting and processing complex covers 8000 m² and houses production premises, seedling cold stores and the nursery's administrative premises, as well as a 500 m² warehouse for storing additional equipment and machinery. The buildings were constructed using glued timber structures combined with other materials.

It is planned that 15 million containerised seedlings for forest regeneration will be grown at Mežvidi each year – pine, spruce and a small number of broadleaved trees. Investments in the construction and development of LVM nurseries up to 2028 will, in total, make it possible to increase the number of seedlings grown, reaching an overall volume of 68 million seedlings a year.
