To reduce the damage that migrating geese can cause to agricultural crops in the spring, the Nature Conservation Agency has issued 142 permits this year for limited spring goose hunting. Limited goose hunting is permitted only in strictly defined areas until 31 May. Limited goose hunting will be monitored by both the Nature Conservation Agency and the State Forest Service.
The Nature Conservation Agency has authorised the culling of no more than 1,000 individual geese in total from the following species: bean goose (Anser fabalis), greater white-fronted goose (Anser albifrons) and Canada goose (Branta canadensis).
Limited goose hunting is permitted only with a written authorisation or an agreement-confirming document that grants the right to conduct hunting in the specific territory. Geese may only be hunted and deterred by hunters who comply with regulatory enactments governing hunting, present a copy of the permit issued by the Nature Conservation Agency, and have completed the required documentation beforehand.
