Following the catastrophic storms on 7 August in Zemgale, where winds of hurricane force, large hailstones and heavy downpours swept across many rural areas, destroying unharvested crops and causing other agricultural damage, the Minister for Agriculture Didzis Šmits has instructed specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture and responsible authorities to promptly assess the situation and the scale of agricultural damage in both Zemgale and other parts of Latvia.
Didzis Šmits: “Given the weather conditions experienced today, which have caused significant losses for farmers, I have instructed the responsible bodies of the Ministry of Agriculture to assess the situation in order to decide on requesting support for affected farms from the Cabinet of Ministers.”
