The Finnish state forest manager ("Metsähallitus") against climate change: forests are both carbon sinks and carbon stores.

The goal of climate-friendly forestry is to use methods that do not affect, or have minimal impact on, climate change ("in a negative direction").

"Metsähallitus", the company that manages state forests in Finland, has implemented the "Smart, climate-friendly forestry" project. As part of the project, carbon was classified specifically for the commercial forests managed by "Metsähallitus", determining the location and significance of different forest types in mitigating climate change. Here, a dual role is distinguished for forests: forest growth (growing forest) is a process that captures (absorbs) carbon, while a large volume of increasing wood stock "acts" as a carbon store.
