The State Forest Service informs that for the 2019/2020 hunting season, the permissible lynx harvest quota has been set at 100 animals, and lynx hunting will begin on 1 January. The lynx hunting season continues until the permissible harvest quota set by the State Forest Service is reached, but no later than 31 March.

The decision to shorten the lynx hunting season was made in accordance with the status of the lynx population, while continuing to ensure a favourable conservation status for the species. At the same time, the State Forest Service reserves the right to reduce the set harvest quota or implement measures to reduce hunting pressure. Furthermore, the State Forest Service advises against hunting lynx during driven hunts in snowless conditions and against hunting female lynx accompanied by offspring born in the previous spring.

A ban on hunting lynx has been imposed for the 2019/2020 hunting season in several parishes within the supervised territory of the Jelgava and Bauska divisions of the Zemgale Forest District, and in the supervised territory of the Babīte division of the Riga Regional Forest District.

Before moving a lynx from the site where it was harvested, the hunt leader must ensure the animal is photographed, capturing the date of the harvest and the coordinates of the location in the photo file metadata. The photograph, information regarding the gender and age of the harvested lynx, and the hunter's licence number must be sent to the State Forest Service via email at medibas@vmd.gov.lv within one working day. The harvested lynx must also be preserved until samples are handed over to support special lynx monitoring.

The Hunting Department of the State Forest Service must be notified within one working day of any lynx death where the cause of death is not hunting.
