LLU Council begins work under the leadership of former Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma

On 20 May, the LLU Council, which will henceforth be one of the university's decision-making bodies, met for its first meeting at Jelgava Palace. The council members elected a chair and a deputy chair from among themselves and agreed on the draft regulations for the LLU Council.

LLU is a university of life sciences and technologies which, in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Order No. 655 of 17 September 2021 'On the types of state higher education institutions', is recognised as a university of science. To implement the amendments provided for in the Law on Higher Education institutions regarding the change in governance, university councils began their operations at LLU and other Latvian higher education institutions from 2022.

At the first meeting of the LLU Council, former Latvian Minister of Agriculture and Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma was unanimously elected as chair of the council. (...)
