Last September, the latest attempt to sell the historic buildings and equipment of the Līgatne Paper Mill at auction was successfully concluded. Cleaning work is currently underway on the site and buildings. The new owner intends to revive the story of paper production here, as well as create new residential stock.

At the wide-open gates of the "Līgatne Paper Mill", where people had gathered almost like a tour group, the ReTV team is met by the new owner of the Līgatne Paper Mill, Edgars Ricevs. Until now, he has been known as a specialist in the telecommunications and IT industry. He has recently turned to a green lifestyle, which is why the offer to develop the Līgatne Paper Mill complex seemed like an interesting challenge to him. "This is the first project in my life where I don't really know what the outcome will be. It is more about the process, taking it step by step, rather than having a clear goal of wanting to develop something specific."

Friends are already busy on the paper mill site. Paper production has not taken place here since 2014, and time has taken its toll. The area must be cleared, roofs on many buildings need to be repaired, as well as the rainwater downpipes. All this is planned to be completed this year. "The main task is to tidy up the buildings so that they are not affected by weather conditions. This is called conservation, if you will. We have to prevent various accidents. We had one roof collapse over the main power distribution board. That has already been fixed," says Edgars Ricevs.
