Forestry crisis costs Irish farmers nearly €1 million per month

In Ireland, the inability of the state's Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) to process felling licences in a timely manner has caused a very serious timber shortage. This state agency’s sluggishness and inaction are costing farmers around €1 million in losses every month. Furthermore, due to this situation, forest owners are also unable to proceed with planting, as afforestation licences have been delayed for approximately two years. The sector is unfortunately losing staff because government agencies are failing to process the necessary documentation.
