Forestry sector organisations – the Latvian Forest Industry Federation, the Latvian Forest Owners' Association and a/s "Latvijas valsts meži" – categorically reject the attacks on the independent Latvian timber measurement system made in an article by journalist Ritums Rozenbergs in the 2 December edition of the newspaper "Neatkarīgā Rīta Avīze".
Participation in the timber measurement system is based on the principle of voluntariness. SIA "VMF Latvia" provides an accessible, efficient and independent timber measurement service, defined within the regulatory framework, which timber market participants have chosen to measure around 90% of the roundwood sold in Latvia. This clearly demonstrates the trust that Latvian forest owners (sellers) and timber processors (buyers) have in the system.
