In order to significantly reduce the spread of the invasive Sosnowsky's hogweed species in the Teiči Nature Reserve, the Nature Conservation Agency has begun controlling it with a herbicide mixture across a 9 ha area on the banks of the Isliena River, in the Pulcēni meadows and on Ozolsala.
A selective herbicide mixture developed by SIA “Integrētā audzēšanas skola”, consisting of Accurate 200 WG and Nuance 75 WG, along with the surfactant Kontakts 100ml/ha, has been used for hogweed control. Experience has shown that this method of eradicating hogweed is highly effective against the plant, while having no impact on the surrounding vegetation or threatening the biodiversity of the treated area. Following the application of the selective herbicide, the hogweed turned yellow, and inflorescences and seeds failed to develop. For those hogweed plants not reached by the selective herbicide mixture, the flower umbels have been cut off.
To ensure that the hogweed control is as effective as possible and to significantly reduce the number of hogweed plants in the next vegetation season, there are plans to treat the same 9 ha area again in early September, using the previously mentioned selective herbicide mixture.
