EU agriculture and fisheries ministers met in Brussels on 26 September 2022. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, Zdeněk Nekula (Zdeněk Nekula).
The EU agriculture ministers first discussed the situation of agricultural production and logistics in Ukraine, as well as the implementation of transport routes to the EU. The Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Mykola Solsky (Mykola Solsky), joined the ministers for this discussion.
In the discussion on fisheries, the ministers exchanged views on fishing opportunities for 2023, including fish stocks shared with the United Kingdom. Annual consultations between the EU and Norway and coastal states for the coming year were also discussed.
Under 'any other business', ministers discussed current food labelling rules in the Union and the need to improve them. They also discussed the impact of the Industrial Emissions Directive proposal on agriculture and exchanged views on the current state of eel stocks and the future of fisheries dependent on them.
Ministers debated the maintenance of permanent grassland in relation to GAEC 1 and discussed the use of temporary state aid measures in light of Russia's war against Ukraine. The meeting of agriculture ministers recently held in Poland as part of the 19th International Dairy Cooperative Forum was mentioned. Finally, ministers discussed the increase in the number of predators in the EU and the problems it poses to the agricultural sector.
