It is expected that Latvia will be hit hardest by the energy crisis, as it is no secret that gas, electricity, and fuel are the most significant imports from Russia. So what exactly awaits us, and how should we prepare for it? Because we must prepare for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Latvia's high energy dependence on Russian energy resources has been discussed for years. The implementation of new energy production technologies – wind turbines, solar parks, etc. – in Latvia has not been particularly successful so far, due to both relatively high costs and bureaucratic hurdles. Another contributing factor is the disapproval from a segment of society that does not want to see wind farms in their backyards. Meanwhile, like many other countries, Latvia has spent years buying large quantities of gas, fuel, and electricity from Russia, and this money has flowed into the Russian economy, where, without us knowing, it has been put to a wide variety of uses. Judging by what is currently happening in Ukraine, unfortunately, these include unacceptable ones.
