Today, 27 March, at a meeting of the supervisory council of AS “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM), following the conclusion of the nomination process, a decision was taken to make changes to the composition of the LVM board. From now on the LVM board will work with five members – the duties of board members will be performed by Jānis Krūmiņš, Māris Kuzmins and Inga Vagele, while board member Valdis Kalns will continue to perform the duties of a board member until the end of his term of office. The LVM board will continue to be led by chairman of the board Pēters Putniņš.
Zane Driņķe, chair of the LVM supervisory council, said of the changes to the board: “This is a time full of challenges both for the company and for the entire forest sector, determined by a combination of several significant factors: geopolitical instability, a particularly difficult market situation, as well as the many uncertainties surrounding the implementation of the European Green Deal in the management of forest land. I therefore wish the company’s board initiative and resilience in implementing the strategy of “Latvijas valsts meži” in such a way that the resources managed by the company deliver the greatest possible benefit to our country in economic terms, in terms of the environment and forest productivity, and in the social sphere.”
Ever since the company was founded in 1999, LVM has responsibly managed and administered 1.62 million ha of Latvian land, including 1.6 million ha of forest land, balancing economic, environmental and social objectives. Thanks to sustainable forest management, the timber stock in Latvia’s state forests increases every year, making a substantial contribution to mitigating climate change.
