The bark beetle has not gone anywhere! In order to implement an action plan for the protection of spruce stands against the spruce bark beetle and to combat this pest, precise information on the distribution and potential proliferation of the pest is required.

This spring is not to the bark beetles' liking, as the weather is relatively cold and rainy, and at present, there is no active flying of this pest anywhere. However, one must not lower their guard, as summer is only just beginning and it is impossible to predict the intensity of the bark beetle's proliferation, which is directly dependent on the weather conditions.

The bark beetle is and will be present in Latvia, but in the event of a possible mass proliferation of the pest, it is especially important to carry out timely control measures, which is why it is necessary to know the locations where there are newly infested spruce stands.
