Last week, the award ceremony for the Cider World 2021 competition took place in Frankfurt, where Abavas Winery drinks were awarded prizes – two gold medals and one silver medal. The “Apple Cake” wine and the Dry Apple wine were awarded gold, while the Abavas cider Medium won a silver medal.
The competition, which has become an important part of the global cider and apple wine culture, is held annually in Frankfurt. This year, more than forty jury members evaluated one hundred and eighty different drinks from seventy-seven producers, representing seventeen countries and three continents.
Abavas Winery has also received recognition and various awards in the Cider World competition in previous years.
“Participation in international competitions not only promotes Latvia's visibility, but also helps to develop the local wine production and appreciation culture and encourages healthy competition regarding the quality of drinks. In the end, the consumer is always the winner. We are very pleased with this high recognition and hope that this summer, Latvian consumers will appreciate not only the award-winning drinks but also other novelties we have prepared,” comments Abavas owner Mārtiņš Barkāns.
Abavas Winery is a locally-owned company that currently holds a leading position among Latvian wineries. In 2020, despite the restrictions caused by the Covid virus, Abavas' turnover grew to 1 million euros.
