The use of electrolysis is considered a sharp turn in another direction for the synthesis of alternative fuels, if we take into account the previous efforts of the US military industry to "get rid of" (or reduce) the use of fossil fuels in aviation and shipping. A few years ago, many were excited by the possibility of producing (synthesising) aviation fuel from various types of renewable resources, such as algae oil, used cooking oil or other bioresources, including fermented biofuel blends. This created the impression that the US Department of Defense was turning to biomaterials and non-fossil alternative fuels.
