The Constitutional Court examined the case within the scope of the first three sentences of Article 105 of the Constitution, finding no signs of a complete deprivation of ownership rights. The Court emphasised the formal preservation of ownership – the micro-reserve does not restrict the right of access, the possibility of disposal, or the possibility of mortgaging. The Constitutional Court therefore did not consider the forest land to have been effectively expropriated.

When the party's nominally second-in-command, Culture Minister Agnese Lāce, invokes the phrase “we're exporting round logs”, it should be understood that this is not really about round logs. In the week when the new EUR 100 million “Latvijas Finieris” plant was opened in Rēzekne and the “Stiga RM” acoustic panel plant (a EUR 34 million investment) was opened in Tukums, this phrase, like a compass needle, reveals the attitude towards the wood-processing and timber industry as a whole.
