...it turns out that in Denmark, which is considered one of the model countries for traffic safety, it can take 10–15 years from the birth of a new idea to its implementation. Essentially, this means that such a timeframe is normal for infrastructure development in large cities, because one cannot try to solve problems that have been accumulating for years in one or two seasons, and moreover, do it all with temporary traffic management measures. Several things have been implemented in Riga that we can view positively, and bollards can also be good, yet I would like to see works being carried out just as actively to rebuild or improve problem areas with permanent solutions. In my opinion, there is currently a distinct lack of targeted action, including stating clearly: this is what we can afford right now, but we cannot afford that, as there are not enough funds for everything. Perhaps there is also a lack of courage under these circumstances to tell certain social groups that specific things are currently impossible or not worth implementing, while at the same time providing well-reasoned explanations for the reasons.
